Have you ever looked at your “To Do List” and thought to yourself, “There is no way I can get it all done!?”
I think that on a daily basis… heck clean the bathrooms has been on my list for the past few days, I just can’t bring myself to DO and CROSS it off my list *yet*
I find that if I can try to streamline my daily activities and bunch them together… I actually get more done! Imagine that. It takes planning and making certain items (again, not cleaning the bathrooms) a priority… but cleaning while multitasking was never really my strong suit. However, exercising AND multitasking… now THERE is something I can get behind!
Before I head out for my morning (walk/run) routine, I usually start a fresh load of laundry, run the dishwasher, and make sure the mail is at the mail box… then I head out for the REAL multitasking to begin.
Here is how this Mommy Multitasks during her Morning Routine:
When my oldest is home (not in preschool) I load the two *big* boys in the double jogger.
Multitasking – Working out: CARDIO & STRENGTH (pushing 75+lbs of kiddos).
While on our walk we continue to multitask :
We sing!
We go over Bible lessons from Cubbies or our daily devotion ~ discussing what we see on our walk (nature, people, things that happened at school)
I teach! We do school lessons (or review) ~ we read signs, numbers, colors. We talk about the changing seasons, weather, and everything in between (I have done many heart to heart and life lessons while on our morning walk(s)).
While the two big boys are in the jogger, I pack the T-Man in the ERGObaby.
Multitask #1 ~ I am strength training by adding 22+lbs of baby to my walk.
Multitask #2 ~ Mr. T is happy, content, and WARM!
Multitask #3 ~ This is also a good way for him to take his morning nap!
This is Daisy, our dog. She is 6.5years old. My little princess, my ‘first born’. Each morning by taking her for a walk – she gets exercise, attention, and affection. Multitask – bring the family pet along too!
Another way I multitask while on my morning walk, I pick up recyclables that people toss out of the cars alongside the road. Gross, perhaps?
I find that this is great life lessons for my children: the importance of taking care of our planet, recycling, and money managment [different ways to make money (I make about $10 every other month by recycling tossed out cans/plastic).]
I know as Mom’s we always have something pressing and important on our ‘to do’ list. More often than not, taking care of our self is not a top priority. OR if exercise is a priority… quality time spent with your children fall off the list. It is a daunting juggling game, trust me – I KNOW! This is just what I personally do as part of my routine. My children expect this. This is our normal.
How do YOU multitask your every day ‘to do list’ while juggling the responsibilities of fitness, health, and CHILDREN?

Rachel, you are SO inspiring! Really. You could make so many excuses, but you don’t. I love that. Your boys are so blessed to have you as their mom.

I love the idea of picking up recyclables. It’s a good lesson, easy, makes you some cash, and is good for the planet!

We totally do the recycling on our walks. I love it. Teaches the kids value of money, picking up after themselves, picking up after others, etc. One time in the park when Noah was around 2 or 2.5, he was trying to take the cans before the homeless man could get them. Guess we had another lesson to learn in that situation. 🙂 But he recognized that by doing one small thing, he could earn money. And he wasn’t afraid to just go out and do it. Love it.

Wow the you seriously DO multi-task! Love that you make extra money collecting cans!! Thanks, litter bugs!! Hee.
You’re an amazing mom!!! I wish I were more like you in that department! I actually DO want to go for a walk every morning like you do and just couldn’t get it together this morning. Seriously lacking in the motivation department in general, work, exercise, getting out, diet…
You’re awesome!

Love it. My kids and I do the same thing when we walk – pick up anything in our path.
I’m having a super hard time with multitasking, and often think I’d have an easier time keeping up the home if I didn’t work from it.
