Let’s be honest. Being a mom is hard, there are times when it is easy to be a positive person, and there are times with it is not so easy. I find the most challenging time to be positive is during the witching hour(s) the hour (or two or three) before dinner (and daddy gets home!!!). This is the time when even the best day can be blown to bits by tired, hungry, and needy small people (or Mommy!).
There are no perfect moms!
Do you have a picture in your mind of what “Super Mom” looks like?
I do!
Super Mom has a well organized, decorated, and spotless house. Her children are perfectly CLEAN and well mannered. She cooks healthy, clean, whole foods for her family. She, herself, is well manicured and well taken care of (physically and mentally). She is one super woman!
I am not that Super Mom.
I have learned that being a positive mom does not mean that I have to be a perfect Mom – Super Mom. I am embracing Psalm 139:14, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” God knew just what he was doing when he made each one of us – imperfections (tempers, mess) and all! Our success begins as we realize that we are a special blend of strengths and shortcomings that God has put together to create “Mom”.
One Day at a Time
Life is always full of choices. For many moms it is easier to say yes than it is to say no. We don’t need to do it all right now! We must guard against adding too many distractions that will take us away from our main attraction: our relationship with God and our family.
Get Plugged In
Just like our cell phones need to be charged often… the same is true for Mothers. Our batteries get drained too!! We get tired physically and emotionally from teh constant effort to discipline, entertain and care for our kids. Not to mention all the other household dutieswe take on. There are days when we feel overwhelmed. We all need a break so we can re-energize from the cares of motherhood.
I personally love adding fitness to help recharge me. Running really helps me to clear my head as well as give me the much needed break or recharge this Mommy needs. However, I know that I need more than just a 30 minute break from life and really focus on what will really help.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could plug ourselves into an outlet and recharge our battery as easily as we charge up our cell phone? Too bad it doesn’t work out that way. However, we can recharge spiritually.
-
The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness (Romans 8:26)
-
He strengthens and encourages us (Acts 9:31)
-
He leads and guides us (John 16:13)
-
He renews us and replenishes us (Isaiah 32:15)
-
He brings forth wonderful fruit (Galatians 5:22-23)
When we learn to “plug in” daily, we can begin to experience the spiritual refreshment that only God can give. We can begin to enjoy the success as a positive mom!
Read Romans 8 and reflect on the verses that deal specifically with the Holy Spirits work in your life (as Mom).

What a fantastic post! I know I need to recharge my spirit to get through some days. Today is a prime example as I had to watch my 2 difficult nephews and dealt with the wonderful discomfort of late pregnancy. But with Christ in me, I can reflect on the blessings and take this day with joy to make the best of life as a whole. Love what you present here on your blog. : )

This is a beautiful post. I used to be so caught up in being the Super Mom or the Perfect Mom. So glad I’ve let that go.
