Raising three little boys is always an adventure. I often compare them to little monkeys, a herd of elephants, or a pack of wild hyenas. In other words, my boys are wild! They are fun! They are crazy! They love life.
Their love of life (and my education experience) has me toying with the idea of homeschooling. I haven’t fully committed, as it is a huge commitment. But there are so many great benefits of homeschooling that I just can’t shake the feeling that I am supposed to be doing it.
What greater way to learn about the world, than to explore the surroundings and travel with your family? How cool would it be to not only learn about the vast continent of Africa, the animals, the ecosystems, the adventures… but to explore it for themselves!?!
When I was younger, a good friend and his family took family holidays with Malatini.com going on African safaris and touring the sights. He would always come back with a great adventure story, photos and memories to last a life time!
I can only imagine the look on my boys eyes if/when they were to see an elephant, giraffe, lion (etc) out in the wild… up close! Not counting a zoo experience.
Traveling to a new and different country is a great adventure all on its own. They would learn about the culture, the cuisine, people, and more! Plus, as a homeschooling family, one could count that as an extremely awesome history, geography, biology (and more) lesson!!

I was a very kinetic learned and I now see it in my daughter too. We hope to homeschool when the time comes and start some ‘tot school’ this fall to help us both prepare for the challenge of homeschooling. When I was home schooled I made my best memories going on missions trips around the world, making maple syrup and exploring the nature center, going to zoos, aquariums, etc. It’s a lot of work, but I think the benefit is huge too if that’s what God calls you to do as a family!

I am a Kindergarten teacher. I thought I would give you my perspective on homeschooling. I have to admit that public schools(depending on where you live) can be amazing or not the best. I love that kids get to socialize, make best friends, and make everlasting memories. However, it can also expose your child to things you don’t want. I’m amazed at what K kids know… stuff I’d never want my child to know till high school!! Also, I love that homeschooling you can work at your own pace, take as many “real life” field trips. I went on a mission trip to Africa this past June. I would LOVE for my kids to experience that. Anyways, I think you should make a list of the pros and cons if both. In my experience teaching my homeschooled students are always behind when they come(but it doesn’t mean all are). We have lots of homeschooled kids at church that are geniuses! As a teacher myself, I would love to homeschooling my own kids. I may even do it. But it will be hard. I want them to get everything they would in a classroom. It would be hard, especially as they get older. My advice is to go visit the schools, talk to other homeschooling parents, and pray about it. Do what your heart tells you. Your children are precious and I know you will do what’s best! 🙂
