The week after the adventure Ragnar provided, I have been focusing on hydration, eating my veggies and increasing my protein. I am finding that in doing so it helps fuel and replenish my body where it was depleted from last weekend’s race.
I have realized that when my iron is low (low protein), so is my energy… and I get uber cranky and snarky. NO one wants to be around that. I am on a quest for more protein in my diet… while staying hydrated and doing my best to maintain a well balanced nutrition plan.
As a FitFluential Ambassador, I was sent a box full of Quest bars to enjoy. And enjoy I am! These 100% all natural protein bars are a fantastic snack when on the go!
These bars claim to have only the highest quality ingredients. Nothing artificial. These bars all offer more than 20g of protein; 1-3g active carbs, high protein and have amazing taste!

The peanut butter cups were my first bar to try… and I must admit it was a bit dry for my liking. However, it forced me to slow down and actually saver my snack… rather than inhale it (like I do the unhealthy version). The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bar is by far my favorite in the box! Yum! I think I have devoured my net protein for the day by that yummy protein bar!
When I am not snacking on protein bars, I am enjoying staying cool and hydrated by making protein and fruit smoothies. I use Designer Whey protein powder, Greens, frozen fruit and blend away in my Vitamix blender. Simple. Easy. Healthy. Yummy!
I am staying hydrated by drinking loads of water with nuun, Zico chocolate flavored coconut water. Even though I feel like I am constantly drinking something to stay hydrated. I think this has helped me not cramp up and bonk. I have also been enjoying the variety of drinking Vitamin Water… hydration and vitamins!
Returning home with the three boys (and homeschooling in full swing)… meals on the go that are prepared are a godsend. I found these Ready Pac bistro salads at my local grocery store. There offer a variety of flavors … each under 300 calories with a good amount of protein. My salad from today (photo above) yielded 13g of protein in the yummy salad! Win!
The rest of the afternoon’s eating plan is up in the air. I am sure it will consist of a lot of the fresh produce we picked up while at the market yesterday afternoon. I love spring/summer because of the abundance of fresh produce!
How do you incorporate more protein in your daily meals?
What is your favorite easy, go to healthy snack?

Good question… Today I brought a handful of almonds to work, and cottage cheese. I still need to figure out how to get more in though. Great post!

I’m actually trying to figure this out myself… I’ve been a vegetarian for over a year & can feel my muscles slowly fading away – being exhausted… when I noticed on my Fitness Pal that I’m like 30 g a day UNDER for my protein. So now, I’m like a protein freak … I’ll have to check out those bars.

What is in that little jar of Greens?
Rachel says
It is by the company, It Works. The ingredients are supposed to be a mass quantity of fruits/veggies. 😉

I just bought a protein powder mix that says it has 25g protein…so I try to have that each morning. It def helps with hunger. I’m not a big meat eater…so I have to get creative.

Thanks for the heads up on the quest bars, so many people think that just because it is a protein bar it is beneficial. Most protein bars are just candy bars with huge amounts of sugars, in low fat labels. thank you for being honest and open about your training, Thanks Bobby McKinney. http://www.loseweightandgainmusclefast.com
