This weekend I will be able to cross off one of my bucket list items, running in a Rock N Roll race series. I was a lucky winner in Pavement Runner’s race entry giveaway to this race a few weeks back. I even managed to convince two of my running girlfriends to run this epic race with me! Good times!
I have been training hard for Ragnar Relay Napa Valley and ultimately my first full marathon (which is in December). I am confident I will finish this race. I am confident I will finish strong and well. What I am unsure about is my finishing time… and how I want to approach this race.
This race is Major! Huge! Epic! Much like running the Nike Women’s Race in San Francisco last year, there are thousands of runners running this race. Often times with large races like this it is hard to find your groove from all the dodging and weaving of slower runners.
Just seeing the above images I found from google, send my middle of the pack mentality and non-enjoying-racer psyche into a stressed induced frenzy!
I would LOVE to set a personal record for the half marathon! I would LOVE to run a sub 2:05. I would LOVE to run a sub 2:00. Heck, I would LOVE to run the entire 13.1 miles without a break (yes, every half marathon I have run I have always walked during the race).
I would LOVE to put the watch and time aside and just run a comfortable race… running for the love of running. Enjoy the sights, sounds and experience of running a Rock N Roll race!
Basically I am going into this race this weekend, with full intentions of running the race to the fullest of my God-given ability come race day. If I run a strong race… awesome! If I am up for running for the love of running and enjoying the sights, sounds, smells and merriment around me… awesome!
I am ready to Rock N Roll San Jose this Sunday!

With all of those people I’d say just go have a ton of fun!!! I have never run a RNR race because there aren’t any here in Canada 🙁

Enjoy! I just did the Rock N Roll Mini last Sunday (5K). I liked it, but was kind of sad more people weren’t doing the mini because once we split off from the half it was pretty boring in terms of being around other people to motivate you.
Good luck, whichever way you decide to run it!

I did the Rock n Roll 5K here. Unfortunately they have stopped running here now 🙁 I really enjoyed it though.

I’m running San Jose RNR too! Just got back from the expo. I’m excited, but like you, unsure how it will go with so many people. Good luck out there!! 🙂

I am not usually the one using this kind of slang, but: OMG How many people are there! How can you see where to place your feets? :b Are there 20k running this ?
Rachel says
There were 16,000 runners on the course 🙂

That is too cool! I haven’t done a rock and roll race but it looks like fun, definitely something I would like to try.
