This year I opted out of running the local Turkey Trot. Instead, I encouraged (and was super excited) to pass the torch on to my boys. The two youngest boys were excited and eager to run their first race. The kids race was 1/4 a mile. To say they were excited was an understatement. They were elated!
The whole morning leading up to the race they were all a chatter. They were excited to wear their race t’shirt.
When we got to the start of the race, T (4 years old) kept walking super fast ahead of us. He was excited and ready to go. He had a DNF, his first and hopefully last. I think he was scared and unsure of what to do. In hindsight I should have run with him. I guess that is the fault of him being the youngest… sometimes we think he can do things his older brothers do.
Shortly after snuggling T-man, we see P-man rounding the corner. He was running fast and strong. I could not help but cheer loudly with tears in my eyes. When he saw us cheering for him he sped up and finished strong. His performance totally blew me away and I am so proud of him!!
After the race P kept telling me he felt that he needed to run longer and again. He was already asking when he could run another race. He also told me that he needs his OWN medal rack to hang up all his medals. I think he has caught the running bug!
Later that afternoon, I was able to sneak away for a quick and comfortably challenging PAIN FREE road run. I ran the first three miles comfortably challenging and the last half mile was a cool down stride home. I had no pain or foot sensitivity on my run. The only time I noticed a twinge in my foot was post run when I was walking.
We are spending the rest of our Thanksgiving Day together as a family. We are currently watching Marmaduke the movie. Later we will be having a scaled down turkey dinner just for our family of 5. One of the disadvantages (or perks?) or living far from family.
I hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving! Today I am thankful for my family and a pain free run! I am thankful to share my love of running with two of my children. Thankful for running. Thankful for SO many things.
Did you participate in a turkey trot today? What are you thankful for today?
Do you run races WITH your kids?
* Both boys have been wearing their finishers medal all.day. (Yes T received a finishers medal… even though he only ran 10 meters at the start and 10 meters to the finish. I guess that is a benefit to being cute and little).

Great job boys! That’s so cute!
I ran a Turkey Trot yesterday as well, that included a 1K fun run for the kids beforehand. It was adorable as always! Someday when/if we have kids I would love to run with them in the fun runs.
