Parenting. Homeschooling. Training for another full marathon. Life’s responsibilities. It is all a big juggling act. It isn’t always glamorous. It isn’t always facebook status worthy. It is life. Dirty. Ugly. Loud. Active. Busy. Life.
Here is a glimpse into our busy, chaotic, ugly, real life, day. Homeschooling. Chores and errands. Training with kids. Life.
The day started with our homeschool lessons and chores. We often do school in our pajamas… or rather T and I do school in our pajamas. In between lessons, I run through the house doing chores: laundry, dishes, decluttering, etc. Very rarely getting a chance to sit still and relax. Busy.
After we completed our lessons for the day, we loaded everyone in the van and headed to the local library for our weekly visit. After the library we ran some errands and then headed to the local trail for some bike riding and exploring.
I was needing to run 5-6 easy miles, and was planning on pushing T in the jogger. He had other plans and demanded he ride his balance bike the whole way. I knew better and brought the jogger along knowing he wouldn’t last very long.
Just as I prepared, we made it 0.17 miles and stopped two times. The T-man decided he no longer could ride nor keep up with his big brothers and had to ride in the jogger. Thank goodness we were close to the van to drop off his bike and helmet to continue on the rest of our trail.
The T man, once in the jogger, kicked back and relaxed watching the geese and his brothers ride ahead of us. The big boys did a great job following bike safety rules as well as sticking together. They could have kept riding. This makes me even more excited for family bike rides along the American River Trail!
The big boys rode and I ran over 5 miles this afternoon. It was a gorgeous, sunny, warm (mid 70s) day in Sacramento today. I believe I ran faster than I would have if I were running on my own… too busy chasing the big boys on the trail. But we did it!
When we completed our trail run, I let the boys get more wiggles out by playing at a park off the trail. They played and made new friends while I busted out 6 strides on the field nearby. Nothing like sprinting 50 meters post stroller run to make you appreciate a nice and easy stroller run.
After our bike/run adventure, I treated the boys to a dollar ice cream cone. It was a real treat as we rarely do things like that. After our adventure the boys continued on with their imaginary world play, finished some last minute lessons, and I prepared dinner. Always busy. Always moving.
After dinner, the whirlwind evening routine began: bath, brush, books, bed. When the boys were finally asleep (or almost) The Man and I busted out a 30 minute x3 Yoga routine. I really enjoyed it. My husband wasn’t as big of a fan. I think he was really looking forward to doing loads of push-ups/pull-ups with The Challenge (that is tomorrow night’s workout).
I find that I am getting stronger. I am more flexible. My balance is improving. I am even able to hold certain challenging poses for a few seconds (long enough for my husband to snap a photo or two).
Life is busy. Life is messy. My Life is loud and chaotic and active and full. There is always something going on, somewhere to go, someone to talk to and hold, lessons to learn. It is life.
Dirty Kitchen
Dirty Floors
Laundry Piled up the doors
Hanging out in my PJ’s
Wrangling. Wrestling. Loud monkeys play.
Teaching. Guiding. Providing.
ABC’s. Writing. Dividing.
To the trails we bike and run.
Out to wiggle for fun in the sun.
Never a dull or quiet moment.
Parenting these boys is full of enjoyment.
The above is a little poem (I am SO not a writer or poet) I wrote this morning as the boys and I were free writing in our journals. Planning our day and embracing our creative side.
There it is. In a nutshell. Another glimpse into the day in the life of this busy mama. Nothing fancy. Just me being me and doing what we do. Jammies most of the day… graduating to workout clothes… and now finally in my pj’s again for a full cycle to repeat tomorrow.

What a busy day! You are such a good example to your boys by getting all that activity in. I’m sure you also do it so they can get THEIR energy out! 😉

Wow! you really do have a lot to juggle with everyday as a mom since you are big on fithness, homeschool and never at home. Some may find this impossible but after a while you get use to doing various task and it becomes routine. You are a very inspiration to your family and loves ones so please keep it all up Rachel.

Awesome job Rachel! My daughter’s daycare teacher called Amber & I Tiggers this morning – always bouncing, hard to hold our attention, requiring a special way of teaching us and working with us. I suspect that you and your boys are also Tiggers but that you’ve found a way to make that an asset. Bouncing is what Tiggers do best!
Rachel says
haha!! Yes!! We must be Tiggers too! 🙂
I always wonder WHY my body are so LOUD and full of endless ENERGY. But then I take a step back and look at their role model… ME… and I know why. I am always moving and am NOT quiet. 🙂

I always applaud anyone who can work out at night. Night is definitely my “me” time and I need it!
