I found two old photos of me running and racing from 2003. I was newly married and enjoyed running with a friend from church. We have since lost contact, which is a total bummer, but the memories of our friendship and running adventures lives on. The two photos I found were my first races as an adult (not in school running as a sport).
The above is the only race my husband has seen me run in. I think it was our newlywed bliss and unconditional support that brought him there. It was run in Chatham, Illinois in 2003. It was a 2.5 mile fun run raising funds for literacy programs in Brazil.
The other race photo above is also from 2003. It was after running a longer distance race… maybe a 5 mile race or a 10K? Again, I am having difficulty searching that far back for race names and results. I remember the race funding teachers and the public school system of Springfield, Illinois. My friend, Malia, and I obviously faired pretty well as it looks like we placed in our age group.
I have always loved running and racing with friends. I am giggling at my race outfit choices from these two races. Obviously an oversized cotton shirt was my preferred running outfit. Gasp.
Lesson learned, I must record all race result names and finishing times. Even if I don’t think I will ever be interested in it, I may one day look back and want to know the time!

That isn’t a cotton shirt, it’s a DRESS! Love it. 🙂 I record my races in a spreadsheet. Started doing that after I realized that I had some 5k and 10k times that weren’t easy to find (small, local races with bad websites). Love your smiling face in these photos!

Haha! Right! I remember thinking that over sized/bigger shirts were better! I had NO idea it was dragging me down. Imagine all that drag from the wind! LOL

Have you tried looking on athlinks? Just type in your name and it will bring up race results from way back when. You can set up an acct and any new races will start showing up as well, and you can save them to your profile. It’s pretty cool.

Thank you! I just signed up with Athlinks! 🙂

Very cute! You look so young! I have pictures at home from my first cross country meet that my parents gave me (they’re moving and cleaning out their house), and I bought the race photo from my first half marathon and have it framed in the living room. My husband hasn’t been to a race of mine in years either…grrr! As you can imagine my competitive spirit has caused me to keep a record of all of my races since my first half marathon, including links to the official results, and how I placed or if it’s a personal best. I even published it at one point on my blog, but haven’t updated the blog version in quite a while 🙂

Thank you! I just created a page/link with all the times/races I could find. But sadly there were many small local races I could not find. Ah well… lesson learned. 🙂

So glad we met up again on facebook Rachel! I LOVED those two runs with you back in 2003! You were my inspiration to keep fit and complete that 5 mile race–which was my first of that distance and we even placed!! Thanks for the training time and all those tips…remember running on the trail to Lake Springfield?! I have my latest running pic to send you but didn’t know if I could post it on this blog? It will crack you up; I’m in disguise for a 5K costume race! Maybe I’ll send it to you via facebook!

Oh my goodness… good memories! I honestly LOVED our special friendship and memories together! I miss it and you! 🙂 Yes, totally send me your 5k costume! I haven’t dressed up for a run yet… but I know that is something I want to do 🙂
