I love running. I prefer running outdoors compared to indoors. I prefer to run alone compared to running with three wild children and one old dog. I prefer to have a specific workout plan and stick to it compared to the inconsistent running I get when my children are with me. Sometimes we don’t always get what we want.
This always leads to an adventure of epic proportions when Mommy wants to run outside… and her only choice is to run WITH KIDS in order for that to happen.
Mommy wanted to run 3 miles. The boys and I headed out for our biking/running adventure. What a sight! If you live near me, in my neighborhood, this is the sight you would have seen driving by me and my train of kiddos.
Seen on my Run
Mile 0 – 0.5 A train of three boys riding their bikes while an already haggard mama runs behind them asking the big boys to slow down, while encouraging the youngest to speed up.
Mile 0.5 – 1.5 The youngest too tired from trying to keep up with his big brothers, decided that his legs were “too tired” and needed a ride. This is why I run while pushing an empty jogging stroller and look goofy to oncoming traffic during those early miles. Always be prepared. During this time Mama was able to run (while still maintaining her MAF heart rate training zone) to close the gap between her and the big boys.
Miles 1.5-2 The T man decided he was rested and was ready to ride again. This opened the seat and gave Daisy an opportunity to ride as she was tired of running. She is an old girl who loves her walks… but she is past her running prime. So she sat back and enjoyed the ride (if only you could see her tongue waving and face… she loves riding in the stroller).
Miles 2 – 3.5 The excitement of riding his bike fast with the boys was short lived. Actually his fast was slower than my grocery shopping pace. It was ridiculously slow. He finally caved and decided he would relax in the jogger the remainder of the excursion. Poor Daisy girl just wanted to relax.
My runs with the boys are never glamorous. They rarely go according to plan. What did happen was miles were covered. No one got hurt. We all got a little fresh air and sunshine. I would call that a winning adventure! Oh the adventures one can see on my run!

I just liked your page on FB through I’m Fit Possible 🙂 You are one busy mama!! I have a 3 month old and a one year old border collie. I have to take Sadie (the dog) out at least once a day for a walk, I love it because it gives me an opportunity to get outside. I try to pick hilly streets for a bit of an extra challenge with the stroller;) I’m really happy I found your blog!

Yay! Thanks! I remember reading somewhere (years ago) that when you push a jogger (or regular stroller) you burn up to 35% MORE calories than walking alone!! 🙂 Keep attacking those hills, mama! 🙂

I love that your dog gets to ride in the stroller while your youngest rode his bike. That made me smile!
