Last weekend I ran the Pretty Muddy 5K race with two of my girlfriends. We had a pretty muddy good time. We set out to enjoy girl time, giggles, and have fun getting muddy together. This race did not disappoint.
This race was unlike any I had run before. It was an all women’s event. It also was a muddy obstacle course event. Two fun new things for me at a race.
The sea of pink was amazing. We had a mid-afternoon start wave for our race. Because of the different waves at the start, there wasn’t a huge crowd of people. We blended right in with our pink tanks!
This was a different type of race, one that was new to me and my girlfriends. This wasn’t a race to run and set a personal record. This wasn’t necessarily a race where you would run the entire course either. It was totally a race where you and your girlfriends go out, get muddy, do a few obstacles, and enjoy a 5k with each other (no children!).
We started clean. Enjoying the goofiness of showing our strong as we scaled walls.
We encountered mud and had to crawl our way under and over fences.
We even had to scale a hill using a rope. I love how Karen decided to show off for the camera with a leg kick as she posed.
Oh yes. Goofiness with girlfriends means random muddy handprints on each other. *snicker* Her bootie had some muddy prints on it… I had two random handprints elsewhere on me too.
Me sporting the peace sign as I climb the rope obstacle… this was a fun one to do (my favorite of the course).
Near the end of the race there was a large mud puddle. We ran across it and I did my best to show an action shot of me jumping in the puddle… but with my old school disposable camera this is as great of an action shot as I could get.
The three muddy amigos post run. We had fun. However, spraying off with a cold garden hose wasn’t that much fun post race. Ah the things we do to keep running fun!
This was a fun race to do with girlfriends. I wouldn’t want to do it alone, running with friends made it fun. I wouldn’t necessarily say it was a challenging course. I think my boys would enjoy doing the race course and obstacles! There was no timing chip for this race… so it was for sole purpose to run (or walk) for fun!
Personally I would love to do something like a Tough Mudder (or Spartan) style race with harder obstacles… but nothing that electrocutes you!
I embraced my strong Mama and I got Pretty Muddy. We had a dirty fun time.

I bought a disposable camera from a drug store and carried it in a ziplock bag. 🙂 I took turns taking photos with my girlfriends (they took a few… and I took a few). We even had other runners take a few of us (the group photos). Runners are friendly and always up to help … in this ‘race’ it was more of a social event than a competition. 🙂

Rachel so fun…I will join again next year and maybe we can do this together…It was 103 degrees when I did this one last year in Sacramento Yikes
Rachel says
Oh dear! That would be a hot race! 🙂

Looks like fun! I think I’d like the all women aspect of it a lot.
I’ve got my first Tough Mudder in 3 weeks and I have 3 Spartan Races and a couple of other mud runs thrown in throughout the summer/fall. I can’t wait! I did my first one of the season last Saturday – on the beach. Lots of fun, REALLY hard!

Oh my goodness!! You are a beast! 🙂 The beach one DOES sound wicked hard! Running (or doing anything) in sand is challenging. 🙂

I am so jealous I didn’t think of using a disposable camera. We had our fellas out on the course snapping pics, but your action shots on the course are WAY better! It is fun to get out of the “racing” mindset and just have some good ‘ol fashioned girlfriend fun, mud included!! Glad you had a good time!!

We say many husbands out there (with the kids) snapping photos of their wives and friends running the course. 🙂

You can just see the fun all over your faces… even through mud 🙂
Rachel says
Haha Thanks! It was a lot of fun 🙂

I have always have wanted to do a mud race but haven’t gotten around to it yet. It looks like you ladies had so much fun!
Rachel says
You should… with friends (it is much more fun with a friend). 🙂
