The past few days have been an adventure. Parenting small children always makes for an interesting life. Throwing curve balls your way when you least expect it. This is why I called this post weekend warrior.
Battling Sickness
My middle son who is usually very active and wiggly has been down and out with the stomach bug. Our family rarely gets sick so the whole stomach bug and lethargy sensation is foreign to my children. It is never fun to see your kiddo sick.
Thankfully he is on the mend and is showing signs of improvement. We visited the urgent care on Sunday and they confirmed it was a stomach bug… and gave us the needed information to help him rest, heal, and get better. So now, my little 6 year old warrior is battling a wicked virus that is taking its toll on him.
Mud Run Battle
Saturday I joined two girlfriends and battled the Pretty Muddy 5K course. We had a lot of fun giggling, chatting, and enjoying some kid free time. Because it was a muddy course, I didn’t want to risk bringing my good camera or phone.
For the race, I purchased an old school disposable camera. I am excited to see what photos we actually took and how they turned out. When the photos get developed, I will be sure to share them on the blog in a race recap (and on instagram… because that is where all the photo fun happens).
Road Warrior
Sunday afternoon, my oldest was desperately needing attention. You know how you can tell when your child craves 1-1 time with you. So… he and I headed out together. I did my run/walk and he rode his bike. I wanted to run 8 miles… but running with the MAF method while chasing a child on his bike doesn’t make for the best condition.
We ended up covering 7 miles. I did my best to stay in my MAF heart rate training zone. Big C did his best to be patient as he rode slowly next to me.
We both learned a valuable lesson… for now with mommy’s heart rate training… it is best for her to run solo. Biking as a family is best done when everyone is on bikes.
Weekend Warrior
Here is sit, Monday morning… planning my day and week. Two healthy children are awake… while my precious P is still asleep. Being a parent is a roller coaster ride and you never know what is coming around the bend. Who knows what adventure will bring us today. I pray that health and sunshine are in our horizon.
This Mommy Weekend Warrior chugs her coffee, finalizes her menu and fitness plan… and is ready to take on whatever the battlefield throws at her. Bring it on Monday! Bring it on!
Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. Psalm 95:2
I am leaning in on the LORD and trusting that He will provide all I need today: patience, health, and more. The world is a battlefield and I am confident in my ability to fight with God on my side. I also love that my Jesus Calling devotional had the exact words I needed to hear this morning.

Okay so another Pretty Muddy in your future?? Last year it was 103 degrees in Sacramento when I did my Pretty Muddy…crazy hot! Smart bringing the old disposable camera, very clever 🙂 My heart breaks when our kids are sick.
We had 3 baseball games over the weekend and won each one of them!! Woop woop, way to start the season out..so super jazzed for our son and his team 🙂

You never know what surprises will come with parenting. The stomach bug is no fun at all! Hopefully your son is feeling 100% better. the Pretty Muddy Race sounds like it was awesome! I can’t wait to see your pics from the race. Keep on being a warrior 🙂

Race looks awesome! And poor little dude 🙁 I was also battling some inner demons this weekend. I got 3 hours of sleep Friday night and had to be up at 5 to get to work in San Francisco by 715am. Around 11am I started to get a headache and by the time I got home at 3pm, it was well on it’s way to a migraine 🙁 I slept from 3-5pm, then again at 630pm and didn’t wake up until Sunday morning at 915am! I still had a headache, though not as bad, but had to be at work in Berkeley at noon, so I had to take a couple Excedrin, wolf down about 20 ounces of Nuun and try to get on with it! I’m on day 8 of 19 straight days of work!
Rachel says
Oh no! Hugs! Praying you feel better soon and the last 11 days of work FLY by without incident or illness. <3
Sheena says
Fingers crossed! I’ve got 5 days of regular full-time job this week, Saturday and Sunday working for Nuun, then 5 more days of regular full-time job, then Bay to Breakers weekend 🙂 Then start all over again!
Rachel says
Oh my goodness! YOu are a crazy busy woman! What do you do for Nuun?! (love them!).
Have fun at B2B!! I would love to run that race again… maybe next year 🙂
Sheena says
Always crazy busy! I’m a Hydration Specialist for them in the Bay Area. I’m usually assigned to my one store (REI Berkeley), so I set up for events, big sales, etc and sample product out to customers, talk to them about the product and the importance of hydration and electrolytes for various activities. I also do events and activities around the Bay Area as well (Nuun recently signed on to be the official hydrator of the SF Marathon, so I’ll have a few events in SF prior to the race as well). It’s super fun and keeps me REALLY busy.

UGH… stomach bugs are my fear… Poor baby. Hopefully its run its course & everyone is making it out germ free!
That medal is awesome! & smart thinking on the disposable! I need to remember that. I didn’t know places still DEVELOPED film!!! That’s so weird!!! 🙂
Rachel says
Thank you… everyone is on the mend now! 🙂
Disposable cameras are hard to find now. 😉 I was able to go to Walgreens to get it developed (1 hour)… but it was CRAZY expensive! IMHO The 1 time use camera cost $15… and then for 27 photos (that weren’t that good quality and some off centered shots) was $12 to develop! I could have purchased a cheap digital for that! LOL

Aww, hope your little lovebug is truly feeling better. I am not a Mom, but my heart breaks when a kidlet is sick! I’m interested to hear more about the Mud Run. I did the other one a few weeks back, but it seems like they are making a big come back this year!
Rachel says
Thank you for your kind words, Ganeeban! 🙂 My muddy run race recap is live now 😉

I love it that you sit down and think and make your plans for the week. I need to start doing this as well! It would make things not only easier but sure make me feel more productive, I love crossing things off my list.
Rachel says
Thank you Hilary. Yes, me too! I am totally a list crosser offer type person! 🙂
