It has been a while since I have shared a day in the life style post with you. Like most people’s day, my day is filled with mundane activities and filled with routine. Here is a photo-filled (not wordless Wednesday) post about what my yesterday looked like.
Coffee and Devotional. Every good day starts like this. I am not saying that every day starts like it… but this one did. Coffee is a must. God’s word is needed. I do find it perfect timing as yesterday’s devotional was talking about and reminding ME that I needed to laugh at myself and to not take life so seriously. Oh how I wish I could have the heart and laughter like a child.
After my morning coffee and feeding my children three different breakfasts (and more!) it was time to start my chores. Laundry. Oh the dreaded always there Mount Laundry.
Laundry and Chores. The weather has been ah-mazing and I have been line drying our laundry. I am fantastic at doing laundry. It is just the folding and putting away that I am terrible with. So here I stood. Folding and bribing the boys to put laundry away. Life isn’t always glamorous. Chores and laundry needed to get done. Someone has to do them.
A little dirty secret that I use when doing my chores around the house, I listen to music and podcasts. This is my me time and I can also tune out any fights/noise from the monkeys downstairs. I was testing out my new JabraRox wireless earphones. Pretty neat that it is wireless (I love wireless headsets) and that it is Bluetooth so I can sync it to my phone to listen to music, take calls, and more! Full review and giveaway coming next week on the blog!
After we got our morning chores done, ate again for the tenth time, and finished a few more loads of laundry… it was time for mama to get her sweat on. I really wanted to run outside. However, I really wanted at great workout and not yell/chase my children while they were on bikes. So I opted to go to the gym.
Gym Time. I needed to sweat. I needed to get my heart pumping. I needed the alone time to challenge myself. I needed a great workout.
I headed upstairs and found an empty treadmill. I was surprised to find that the gym was crowded on this beautiful morning. Many of the treadmills were taken. If I had the option, I would totally have been running outdoors… but today was not that day.
I got on my treadmill and ran 3 miles. I monitored my heart rate with my heart rate monitor. I used my polar H7 bluetooth heart rate monitor and was able to see my stats on the treadmill… as well as on my Loop. I wanted to challenge myself to see how high my heart rate would go. I ran the last .5 miles at sprinting speed. I saw my heart rate shoot up… pretty cool stuff!
After running, I headed downstairs and took a GST (group strength class) with a new-to-me instructor. It has been a while since I have taken a group strength class because I was not finding it to be a good workout (more a social hour). I decided to take a chance and take this class. It was excellent! She was informative (like a teacher teaching proper form) as well as uber challenging!
I am not sure if I found it more challenging because of the weights I chose, or because I did body pump the day before… either way I really enjoyed the class. I pulled out my camera during the last 10 minutes of class when we were working on abs to show my heart rate on my Polar Loop. Pretty cool stuff!
After the gym, all sweaty, salty and stinky we headed to the library. That is how I roll. I had a few books to pick up that were reserved for me, and the boys were due to pick out a few fresh new books to read. They LOVE non-fiction books and are all about army books! Please tell me this is normal for little boys!? This girl was NOT like that growing up.
After the library we headed home to feed the monkeys and hungry mama. No gourmet lunches in this household. Sandwiches and pirate booties for the win! These boys and their lunchtime antics… one would think it was comedy hour. They were challenging each other to see how many pirate booties they could shove in their mouth.
The boys are grounded from TV. Yes. It happens. Which also means that Mama is grounded from the boys watching TV. Sigh. No more TV babysitter for this mama. Just being honest.
I told the boys it was time to rest. We would be reading our library books. They could read indoors or outside. I chose to read outside. The sunshine and fresh air was calling my name.
My boys chose to read indoors. Reading all about history, wars, and wild animals. I am thankful that they love the library and love to read!
After some down time, the boys were getting restless. They needed more room to wiggle and run. We headed to the park to play. T-man has been all about playing baseball lately. We made sure to bring his ball and bat. The boys rode their bikes, played ball and even made a friend at the park. Oh how we do love our parks here!
Walking home from the park, we cooled off with a strawberry smoothie pop I made this past weekend. The boys ran around and played in their own world.
It was dinner time, so in a rush I made breakfast for dinner (daddy was working late). We did the typical routine of bath, brush and books before bed. Sorry no photos as bedtime routine is usually rushed yet relaxed… I didn’t think to take my camera out.
Our bedtime routine in a nutshell… you can use your imagination: too much splashing in the tub, soap in the eyes, tooth paste too spicy, wrong bedtime story, too long/too short, not tired, super tired, one more song, pray again, etc.
Our days are pretty busy… but I find that keeping busy and spending as much time outdoors makes my monkeys happy. Every day is different, unique, and full of adventure. Thanks for reading!
Question: What books and subjects do your kiddos enjoy reading?
Deborah Brooks @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
You’re one busy mama! As they get older the schedule part gets a little easier. It’s the other stuff that gets harder!
Rachel says
Thanks! Yes. I am finding that as my boys age life is getting a little easier (on one hand)… yet different challenges arise. 🙂
Rebecca Jo says

Divya @ Eat. Teach. Blog. says
I love that your day always starts off with some coffee and calm!! I need to get myself up earlier so I can start the same way!
Rachel says
Yes. The trick is exactly that… waking up before the storm/wild begins to start each day off like that! 😉
Alison says
Looks like you have a fun filled day! Seems like you are getting all the important things done for the body and soul!
Rachel says
Thank you! 🙂
Kathleen says
What a fun and active day. I wish I could find a gym with childcare that was anywhere near my home, I would love to go.
Rachel says
I totally understand. A great child care is KEY to have a great workout (knowing yoru kids are in great care!)
Angela S says
You are one busy mom! This was so fun to read. It’s always neat to see what someone else’s every day life is like.

Kecia says
I try to keep a routine, especially for my 6 month old, but it seems to vary no matter how hard I try. As long as they are happy!!
Rachel says
Yes. As long as they are happy!! That is all that matters! 🙂
Lynsey @MoscatoMom says
Fun week! I have been debating getting a Polar FT7 this week… hmmm…
Rachel says
I love my polar products. I have the FT40 heart rate watch and have been eying the FT60! I also love my H7 bluetooth heart rate strap because it syncs to my loop, FT40 and even iPhone! Pretty neat stuff!
Digna D. says

Rachel says
Yes busy and fun! 🙂
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
No kiddos of my own, but my students are into Wimpy Kid Everything.
Rachel says
Love Wimpy Kid. My boys watched the movie (that was on tv) and LOVE the Cheesy Touch… I should totally add that book series to our reading list! 🙂
Denine, from We Know Stuff says
It’s nice to know that other Moms out there are trying to cram it all in. At least you keep it humorous. 🙂
Kammie @ Sensual Appeal says
Sounds like a jam packed day! I know when I have kids I will take them to the library regularly – that’s one of my favorite childhood memories and also how I got so into reading!
Teresa Foskey says
You have a great routine. I need to get on one STAT. We are on our 2nd full week of summer vacation and I still don’t have one other then on Tuesday’s going to the cheap movie. Thanks for sharing your day!
Wendy says
oh, things are changing! We have lots of stuff going on, but tomorrow is THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER, so we will take it a bit easy. My kids are much older (12 and 15) so our schedule is different, but it’s still good!
Beth says
I am not home during the day so my day is pretty structured. Brian has decided to have set structured time and set unstructured time for the kids this summer. We will see how it works and it lets him work some, lets them play some, but also gives them some expectation to what the day holds for them!
Liz Mays says
For the most part, I’m totally unstructured with time. I may have one thing that’s hard and fast, but otherwise I’m all about taking it as it comes.
cindy says
I have three boys (and a little girl) as well, and I laughed out loud about the yelling/chasing them on their bikes…love it! that is so the case for us, too!
my guys love non-fiction as well – anything creepy and crawly mostly. we’re just getting into the “Hey, Jack!” books – have your guys read any of them?
love the glimpse into your day – I agree with your great start, especially 🙂
Ericka Chatman says
Wow! You had a full busy day. I need to start myself a morning routine…like…tomorrow :).
Valerie Remy-Milora says
Ah the life of a mom …. it never gets boring does it? I love the way you sure your day, your mindset, all the play time you enjoy with your kids, the outdoor time the silliness the seriousness it all sounds like you have a happy healthy family 🙂
Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in Parenting says
I love your days. They sound like a ton of fun. I can’t wait to get to a stage with my toddler where I can workout in peace without interference. She’s kinda like a dinosaur, stealing the water bottle, rolling up the yoga mat, trying to hide my free weights… etc. 😉
Tiff @ Babes and Kids says
What a great day. It’s days like those where you feel accomplished.
Chelle @ Oh Just Stop Already says
What a great day to be had! Love your Polar, I’ve got the F4 and have been thinking about upgrading it.
Sarah @ Must Have Mom says
Looks like a great day! I especially love your heart rate monitor. That is awesome. And your boys ENJOY reading non-fiction? That’s unusual for most kids! Send them to me, maybe they’ll rub off on mine!
Kimberly Grabinski says
Sounds like a fulfilling active day!
How the heck do you workout with your ring on? I can’t even wear it around the house doing normal stuff.
Shell Feis says
What a fun peek into your day! I am glad you enjoyed the class, and yes, army books are totally normal for boys! My sons aren’t there yet, but my little brother went through a whole long phase for sure.
