Happy National Running Day! Today is a day where we crazy runners, celebrate our love of running! You may see many of us braving the elements and running outdoors… just because we can… to celebrate today!
Maybe that was just me and my crazy boys! We had a busy day planned and I wanted to make sure we did some running before the busy-ness started. So we headed to the neighborhood park to do some running. We sprinted. We played freeze tag. We even posed for some staged running photos that I will share with you today! Yay!
Like any running blogger, one must take a photo of our running shoes. Check out those fast feet! My boys are not only getting older but they are getting faster! It isn’t so easy to catch them when playing tag… and that is when you are really trying to get them!!
Why do I run?
I run because I can.
I run because it makes me happy.
I run because amidst my crazy chaotic week… running is my only me time.
I run to be alone… because again it is my only time and space where I can be alone with my thoughts.
I run because I love to run. Do what you love and love what you do! I love running.
I hope you got outside (or on a treadmill gasp) and enjoyed your day by running. Happy National Running Day to my fellow running friends!! I hope you had a great run!
Rebecca Jo says
So cute that pic running with the boys 🙂
I did get out, but wished I stuck to the treadmill, so humid.
Rachel says
Hugs. Yes. The heat is here. Way to get some miles in! 🙂
Running Hutch says
I find it kind of ironic that on National Running Day, while I did run…it was just one obligatory mile. I didn’t have the energy but because it was national running day I did it anyway, and the saying holds true…as difficult as it can be to start, you never regret it after you’ve finished.
Rachel says
Yes. I kind of felt the same way. Even though I didn’t really get as many running miles in as I had wanted… we did run. Funny how those “must do” obligations kind of suck the JOY out of loving to do them. Atleast it always is the case for me. 🙂
Kelly @ Cupcake Kelly's says
I love the photos of you and your boys <3
Rachel says
Thanks, Kelly! I think they are pretty cute! 🙂
Ericka Chatman says
I’ve never been much of a runner, but reading your post always have me inspired to do so. I think I’m going to start incorporating it into my life.
Rachel says
Awesome Ericka! Even if it isn’t running… getting out and moving (walking) is also a great form of exercise! 🙂
Tiff @ Babes and Kids says
Love that it was running day! I think I did a 4 miler that day. I agree with running and happiness. I run because of the endorphins. 🙂
Rachel says
Yay! I love your reason you run… endorphins are pretty awesome! 🙂
Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in Parenting says
Running = happiness. Love love love it!
Rachel says
Yes! Thank you! 🙂
Alison says
Love those photos!! And what a good day to celebrate. I’ve been having races down the street with the boys after the bus comes. It’s a little burst but better than nothing. 🙂
Rachel says
Oh my goodness… that sounds like SO much fun! My boys would love that game too! They are all about racing mommy! 🙂
Sara P. (@SensiblySara) says
Running is my nemesis! It makes my knees & breasts ache. I wish I liked it. I do LOVE to walk, though!
Rachel says
I totally understand. My husband doesn’t like to run either. Walking is GREAT exercise!!
cindy says
Our 7yo son has just taken an interest in running! Any tips on how to get started in a more structured way?
Rachel says
Hi Cindy. For your 7 year old son, I would just encourage him to walk/run. Walk until he feels the desire to run. Then run. When he is winded, he should walk to recover. Then repeat. 🙂 Are there any running teams or programs at his local school? OR perhaps your local running club in your town has fun runs available (for super cheap) that you could register him for! 🙂
Jennifer @ Mom Spotted says
This year I’m doing more walking than running since my foot has been bothering me but I love hitting the trails either way. It’s so peaceful out there! My kids love going with me too but they use their bikes and scooters!
Rachel says
So fun, Jennifer!! My boys are getting older and love riding their bikes on the trails too. This means that Mommy needs to either ride bikes too… or run REALLY fast to keep up with them. 😉
Kimberly Grabinski says
I didn’t run today, I mowed the lawn. I run because I feel strong when I do. I also feel free of stress.
Rachel says
I love your reason you run! Yes, I feel strong too! Stress free! Btw, I saw your lawn you mowed… massive! That in itself would have been a workout!! Go you!
Kimberly Grabinski says
Thanks, I love our yard! My husband suggested a riding mower but why? I love that I accomplish something while getting my workout in.
Valerie Remy-Milora says
I love running but injured my neck a few years ago and really shouldn’t any more.. Sometimes I just can’t help it though and I go for a nice 20 minute run even if I know I’ll pay the price later..Running is sooo therapeutic! It’s a complete de-stress and time to sort through my thoughts. I need to try a pair of moon boots to see if that makes running something I can enjoy once again 🙂
Rachel says
Oh hugs! Yes, I totally take running for granted, and need to remember how blessed I am that I CAN run. 🙂 What are moon boots?
Valerie Remy-Milora says
Thanks for the hugs Rachel 🙂 I’m not sure “moon boots” is the official name lol but they are the running shoes that have a giant spring on the sole which eliminates the hard impact issues… you tend to bounce like you are walking on the moon! I’ve always wanted to try them They look so fun! And I’d love to find a way to get back into running without aggravating my neck 🙂 Happy trails!
Rachel says
Those DO sound like fun! Have you tried pool running? Or does the elliptical aggrivate your neck too?
Liz Mays says
I can’t say I share your love for running, but I totally understand having that passion. It’s a great way to stay healthy and fit!
Rachel says
Thank you, Liz!
Shell Feis says
Running & I don’t get along but I love those photos of you & your boys! Happy Running Day!
Rachel says

Michelle says
I am slowly working up to it. Im a bigger girl so baby steps lol
Rachel says
Small steps forward. Keep moving forward. You are making progress! That is all that matters! Proud of yoU!
Mel Outnumbered says
I never knew there was a national running day – how neat!
Rachel says
Yes. Then two days later it is National Donut Day! Coincidence?! I think not!:)
trisha says
the one thing about running is I am always paranoid about someone BEHIND me. I think I have to get over that fear first.
Rachel says
Haha! When I wear my hydration back pack, I have that same fear. The sloshing sound ALWAYS sounds like footsteps behind me! 🙂
Dee @ Cocktails with Mom says
I’m a walker and maybe one day I’ll advance myself up to running. Maybe I should set a goal for myself.
Rachel says
Walking is great!! You could WALK a 5K! 🙂
