Summer is in full effect and we are doing our best to stay busy while making as many fun memories as possible. Summer in Sacramento, California is a lot of fun. There is so much to go do and see! I am thankful my boys are adventurous and are always up for a fun activity for the day.
Whether our fun activities are park play date with friends, swim play dates, splash pads, or dollar movie dates. There is always something fun to go do, see, and explore! I am doing my best to make memories while tiring them out for an easy bedtime… mama is tired too!
Park Play Dates
I am so thankful and blessed to have made some amazing friends for ME and that their children are friends with MY children! This makes park play dates not only exciting for my boys… but also for me! We have an amazing park system in our town and it is a great opportunity for everyone to get their wiggles out and feel refreshed after getting together with friends.
I am so blessed to have some amazing Godly women in my life that I can call friend. Knowing that I can confide in them and pray with them is so amazing and desired. Park play dates are not only fun for my boys… but also for me.
Swim Play Dates
Being that it is summer, we spend the majority of our time swimming. We have enjoyed swimming at friends houses and out our gym. The boys are exploring their love of the water while Mommy works on her tan.
The warmer weather has also encouraged me to get in the pool to swim some laps instead of pounding away at the treadmill indoors. It is very humbling to realize how out of swim-shape I have become. When I was younger, I used to swim laps for fun for HOURS. Ah the energy of youth!
Park Splash Pads
Our town has an amazing park system, mentioned above. We have loads of free entertainment in the form of splash pads. This is free and it also cools everyone down while playing… which is great when the temperatures soar in the 100’s. Sacramento gets hot!
Dollar Movie Dates
Like many larger cities, our local theatre offers dollar movies on specific children’s movies that are rated G/PG. This is a great cheap option to spend as a family to beat the heat. We have enjoyed watching Smurfs2 and The Pirates Band. We are looking forward to seeing a few more movies this summer that we haven’t seen.
And of course, explaining to my two younger boys what these strange looking things were. Much to their surprise they made noise when you picked them up and could call out. Oh what a stone age I must have grown up in for their little brains. Pay phones. It has been a while since I have seen one too.
Aquatic Center (Mega Swim) Fun
We met some friends at the mega aquatic center this afternoon. It was very overwhelming at first. So much so that my youngest was shy and just wanted to hang out on the towels and watch from a distance. Mainly because he wasn’t allowed to wear his monkey (flotation device).
He was too small and didn’t have the swimming skills necessary to join/follow his big brothers and friends to the really fun stuff. My big boys had a blast and enjoyed going down water slides, jumping off low/high dives and just swimming and splashing with friends! Needless to say that are tired!
We have been busy exploring and enjoying our area… making memories. As much as we enjoy staying busy and on the go… I am really hoping for a low key day at home tomorrow. Mama needs to catch up on HOME chores and needs a good solid workout. Perhaps we can figure out a fun activity and make a memory at HOME… instead of on the go.

Summer is definitely my favorite season. .I’ve always loved hanging out at the pool with the kids and hitting some amusements parks. We usually do a big family trip somewhere in the summer too. Goes by way too fast!

I love our city!
I’m going to a splash pad on Saturday, but unfortunately I can’t play in it 🙁
I know it’s last minute, but are you running early on Saturday morning? I was looking to get in a easy 5 miler around 7AM? I’d love to meet you in PERSON and get a run in. If not, let’s plan for another day!!
Rachel says
Hi. Yes. Sacramento is pretty awesome. 🙂
I would LOVE to run with you. But I am not going to be able to meet you this Saturday. Because I am attending the SF event, I will be leaving here around 11:30 (and would feel bad if I am COMPLETELY MIA for my family all day).
Let’s totally plan for another day! 🙂

Wow. That park really caught my eye. I am jealous you have access to a Splash Pad. We have a sprinkler, but that is the trade-off for rural living I suppose. Can’t wait to follow your adventures all Summer.
Rachel says
Thanks. Yes, I think our park system is amazing here… because there is not land/yard space here in the city. Oh what I would do to be living in the country again! 😉 I guess we all have grass is greener pros/cons 😉

I like to swim when I get the chance. We live really close to a water park in our city and it’s nice to go there and ride down the lazy river.
Rachel says
Oh the lazy river… I long to lay and float all.day.long on that thing! 🙂

I want to live where you are!! Such fun things to do! I have to drive 20 minutes just to get to a school with a track on it – forget a nice playground like that. The disadvantage of living in the country…
Rachel says
True. But I think there are so many advantages of country living. 🙂 (I miss country living).

HO-LEE COW! I want to go! OMG Why can’t we live there?
Rachel says
Right! I was in shock and awe when we first visited too! 🙂

We joined a neighborhood pool with friends and are going to the Dollar morning movies, too! Plus visiting Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and doing the tourist thing a couple of times a month. 🙂
Rachel says
Oooh Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg sound like a lot of fun! Learning + Fun! 🙂

I thoroughly miss the weather in California, our year there was pretty amazing. This summer we hope to hit as many water parks and beaches as possible. If the weather would just warm up!

The splash pads and discount movies have always been a favorite of mine too. This is awesome!

What a fun summer! Your kids are lucky!

I LOVE summer! For so many reasons but mostly because I get to spend so much quality time with my girls. My favorite thing to do is to visit my parents in the South of France… Once there I just love being with them and taking life at a slower pace. This summer my oldest and youngest will be going while my second will be staying in LA with my husband and I … and I am looking forward to lots of fun activities from surfing lessons to just hanging out, picking up a guitar, going on bike rides.. All about relishing that quality slow paced season 🙂
Rachel says
Your summer sounds divine! Fast paced or slow paced… memories are being made! 🙂
