I am so excited to introduce you to my dear friend, Kelly today. She is also known as Colorado Fit Mom and is one of my dear friends, fitness mentors and a pretty all around amazing gal! While I am on vacation, I asked her to share with me (us – YOU) her top three tips to feed your faith when life gets busy. Making a daily commitment to grow your faith and challenge your fitness.
Hi! I’m Kelly – a wife, mom of three and Texas girl living in Colorado (10 years now!) who loves the Lord, Blue Bell ice cream and solo runs through through the mountains on a warm summer day.
Rachel and I connected years ago through social media (how did moms survive before it was around?? or maybe life was a lot simpler??). I think what has kept us connected throughout the years is the fact that we have very similar priorities – faith, family and fitness.
A Little About Me (Kelly)
I was raised in a Christian family, went to a Christian school … and camp (where my husband and I actually met) and church every Sunday. But I didn’t feel like I truly owned my faith until being on my own in college, in the middle of a messy eating disorder, knowing that this was not the life I wanted for myself.
That’s when my faith came alive – learning to lean on the Lord to help me get out of my pit. Not long after I was on the other side of recovery, I married my best friend and then three years later found out I was pregnant with our first child.
Life hasn’t slowed down since and my relationship with Lord has had it’s ups and downs and dry spells.
Life gets busy.
Days are exhausting.
The only way that I survive the day to day (and sometimes it’s just barely) is with Jesus front and center… and a little bit of coffee.
Three Tips To Feed Your Faith When Life Gets Busy
-
Jesus Calling – I start my day with the Jesus Calling app (the book is great too). I love the short devotionals that help me focus my day on Him before the busyness sets in. Another great app is the YouVersion app. I love all of the different plans that you can choose from, depending on what subject you need the most encouragement (marriage, mom, faith, etc).
-
Podcasts – I love to run, but despise laundry. So, I listen to podcasts while running and while putting away laundry and it’s amazing how much it affects both – I end a run in an even better mood and finish the laundry in a much better mindset than I would without the audio. I love the podcasts from Passion City Church but there are a ton of other great ones out there.
-
Make it a family affair – I love to read and I love reading to my kids (I was a first grade teacher before staying home). Two of my favorite books to read with the kids are The Big Picture Story Bible and The Jesus Storybook Bible. We also listen to The Rizers when in the car or cleaning up, which is a great way for us all to practice hiding God’s word in our hearts (I grew up listening to Psalty the Singing Songbook and find The Rizers to be a bit more pleasing to my adult ears). And my favorite Mom book is The Bathtub is Overflowing, but I Feel Drained by Lysa TerKeurst. The more I read and hear things that uplift and encourage me, the more love, joy, peace, patience, etc flow out of me!
I love what Kelly shared today! I have her returning again next week to share with us her top three tips on how to fit in fitness during her busy day. It is good stuff, you don’t want to miss it!
Finding time to fit in quiet time during your day, focusing on growing your faith, is key when life is busy. There are many great resources out there for our use. We just need to take advantage of them and focus on feeding our soul. Life gets crazy busy. We need to focus on Jesus during the craziest days… or we lose our self.

Those are great ideas. I like to download podcasts & listen to them while chauffeuring the kids around. There’s not a lot of downtime at home, but I can multitask in the car.
Rachel says
Yes. I totally agree. Life is busy… those few moments in the car can refuel your soul 😉

Our biggest tip is to let go of the music fads and tune into the music that lifts God to our hearts and voices.

I have struggled the past 7 months to fit God back into our lives and it seems like the more I try the more that gets in the way. It definitely is not an easy walk.

to answer the question, nothing. i have no faith. *is atheist* but i do get a lot of quiet time during the day when no one is here to think about things i wanna do or wanna create. 😛 does that count?
Denine, from WeKnowStuff says
Never thought of using podcasts to fill in that time instead of just listening to music! Such a great idea!

Thanks for the suggestions on apps. I never thought about an app for that purpose, but I love the idea!
