This past weekend, I joined two of my girlfriends last minute to run the Sacramento Color Run. I have never run this race before and was super excited to be running it. The Color Run was full of color, laughs and a lot of fun.
We sported our white shirts and were super clean at the start. The white shirts were recommended to show the color that was thrown on us as we ran through the course. We were squeaky clean. Even Paige’s super cute unicorn was white pre-race.
Love these girls. My friend Sarah was the experienced Color Runner and was sharing the fun details with Winnie and I before we started. We were looking forward to a great time.
While we waited, there was a super energetic and young (handsome) guy DJ’ing and moderating the race start. He was tossing color swag, dancing, and getting everyone hyped up for the happiest 5K on the planet. Before we knew it we were off and running.
Yay! Look at me! I am running in my first Color Run! You can see the California State Capital building in the background.
About every half mile or so there were different color stations where volunteers would blast color on the runners/walkers. You could see the color stations before you got there as there was a plume of color in the air.
I loved Loved LOVED that there were police officers cheering and giving high fives to the participants along the course. This officer was giving free hugs. Notice her uniform… she was full of color that morning too! I had to take a photo with her. Even though she wasn’t participating in the race, I think she was pretty happy to be there too.
We did a lot more walking than running. That is okay. This type of race is more for fun than time. It seemed that the majority of participants in this race (atleast our wave) were walkers. Many were running with young children either walking, running, or pushing them in strollers. I even saw people walking with canes, ankle boots, and many too cool gentlemen smoking as they were on the course.
Totally a different race dynamic. Totally fun. No matter how you slice it. Everyone out there had a smile on their face and covered 3.1 miles before lunch.
We had a great time at the color run this weekend. We were full of color at the finish. We did it. I am hoping to do this race again next year… with my boys. I think they could totally do this race and would love it.
I did it. I ran in my first color run this past weekend. I ran the happiest 5K on the planet. It was a happy 5K.

I love seeing/hearing how people enjoy color runs! I love that this makes running, or partially running, FUN for everyone and you can do it with your family and friends. I have never done one and likely never will simply because…well, I don’t want to pay for it! Lol.

I want to do one of these so bad! The dates they were near me last year just did not work out. Major props to you for running in this summer heat. The picture with the capitol building is also to die for.
Hope you’re not still all smurfed out.

My daughter wants to do a color run. I’m a bit scared since running is something I’ve never enjoyed doing. Still, all these fun 5k’s that are popping up make it sound more enticing. If I could just convince myself to start practicing…

These runs look like SO MUCH FUN! I loev that female officer getting involved, awesome!!

My 17 year old is dying to do this race. I need to find a way to make it happen this year before she leaves for college and it’s too late… Love that the police officer was giving out hugs and proudly wearing her support on her uniform 🙂

I did a color run earlier this year – and it rained the entire time! It was fun though, and we were all kinds of rainbow when we were finished.

I’m so excited to do my first one in a two months. They look like such a good time!
Mimi says
I haven’t run in one. I wouldn’t last a block. I’d probably pass out. My daughters on the other hand have done them and love them! Love that there were officers cheering you on, too!
Rachel says
That is the great thing about this particular race, Mimi. There were people of all ability levels on the course. In fact, there were NOT many people running… most people were walking. I even saw people walking with ankle boots (and even a few people smoking as they walked covered in color) along the course. 🙂

What a fun event! I just love all the creative ways they are making these fun runs even better. Love the after photo with your friends. I just have to ask, were you coughing up color for a while afterwards?

I have been wanting to participate in one of these. However “some” people don’t consider these fun and it’s hard to get a group together. Maybe I can talk my hubby into doing one with me. lol

I think its on my blog where the last color run I did, someone literally dumped a WHOLE BAG of green on me. Call me Kermit.
They are fun runs to do with family.
