This week has been interesting… to say the least. If you follow me on instagram you have seen a glimpse into my week through what I share in photos. It was a good week. It was a busy week. It was a week with a lot of life lessons learned.
I was solo parenting this week, and decided that this would be a great time (silly I know) to follow the 3-Day Refresh program. I wouldn’t be making yummy dinners for my husband… kid friendly dinners it was! Monday morning I started the program… nervous, scared, but was committed to stick to the prescribed plan.
My fitness and exercise over the course of the 3 days were very relaxed and stress-free. I didn’t do anything too challenging. All my fitness was with my boys. We walked, hiked, and explored for our daily movement.
Our longest walk was almost 3 miles as we hiked and explored (very slowly) a trail near our house. We enjoyed spotting critters and wildlife along the trail.
Our Daisy-dog enjoyed the slower pace as she got to join us on our family walks also.
Before I knew it, Wednesday night came and gone and I had completed the 3-Day Refresh. I had successful results and learned a LOT about my eating habits, portion control and hydration needs.
When Thursday morning approached, I was very excited to greet my old friend. Coffee. It had been three days since I last enjoyed his presence in the morning. He was sorely missed (even though I never had caffeine withdrawal headaches).
Thursday morning we also got to enjoy watching and learning all about pulleys and levers as the tow truck man towed Daddy’s car to the mechanic. My husband’s commuter car’s engine blew over the weekend. No fixing that bad boy (or investing $$$$ into it). We are now a one car family. Temporarily. Until we figure something else out.
Thank goodness for homeschooling. I don’t have to drive them to class… our class is in our home. We are slowly starting up our lessons for the year. I have a TK (transitional kindergartener), 1st grader and 3rd grader. Oh boy. This year will be an epic year of juggling and balance.
Speaking of balance… when the boys were on their break and decided to play Legos… I enjoyed a break hanging out outside. I need and crave the sunshine. I enjoyed a few moments of peace and quiet, in the sunshine, reading a book that uplifted my soul.
On Friday, after our chores and lessons, we decided to make the best of our car-less situation. We are blessed to have health and two working feet. We set off to explore our town. We headed to the library, Dollar Store, and lunch at Denny’s. We ended up walking almost 5 miles. They did great.
The youngest, even though he rode in the jogger the majority of the way, was exhausted from all the fresh air, excitement and fun. He decided to tell me (in a non verbal way – think crying, whining, and throwing a fit) that he needed snuggles from Mom. Lessons learned all around from this guy.
Our week was good and busy, like always. It wasn’t always easy or stress free. As with all things in life we were thrown a few curve balls and am choosing to find joy and make lemonade out of the lemons thrown our way.

Our truck broke down in the middle of the crazy Winter last year with my husband in it on his way home and we were ready to chuck it. BUT we got it fixed and it made its way home and we eventually plan to get a new one. Life does throw curve balls irregularly and you just have to figure out how you are gonna pick up the ball and throw it right back. Great post.

Now coffee for 3 days would be so hard. I’d be a grump.

I have never done a 3-Day Refresh but am seeing a lot of people doing this. How many have you done and what have been the positive results?
Your boys are super cute and you are a super mom for home-schooling! Awesome!

Yikes, 3 days without coffee? You’re tough. 😉

I love your attitude and outlook, it’s really refreshing.
No caffeine withdrawal headaches? You’re a rock star! I’m interested in learning more about the 3-day-refresh. Is it just like a detox program?

Wow. It was a busy week for you. Sorry about your car. That’s a bummer, but bonus for more walking! Hubs is getting ready to leave again here, and I’m not looking forward to solo parenting too much.

I was in Kentucky most of the week – which was a roller coster itself. The girls went back to school today so life is already starting to feel more normal. I LOVE this time of year LOL

Wow. You have a great attitude. I think my highlight of the week was getting hired at Lorna Jane Active in Huntington Beach. It will really help us out financially and it’s a place where I can be myself and talk about what I love.

Oh my! I don’t know if I could go three days without coffee! The highlight of my week was being able to spend time traveling with my family around our neighborhood.

Wow, 3 miles! That’s an awesome walk … something I really can’t wait to start doing again myself after the kids go back to school.

What a beautiful mindset! The highlight of our week was volunteering for a special event put on by two non-profits for chronically ill children and their siblings. For two and a half magical hours we introduced these children to the joy of flying! (on silks and trapeze) The sheer joy these children shared with us touched my very soul. I am forever grateful to have shared this amazing experience with these wonderful children and two of my daughters.

I’ve been really thinking about trying the 3 day refresh! Glad to know it was pleasant for you. My highlight was hitting my PR’s in the box. A very nice surprise.

Sorry about your husbands car, our week was somewhat similar. We had transmission issue and I am so over it.

After three trips within a week’s time, I think the highlight was my first night sleeping in my own bed. There’s nothing like it!

I love that you spent time exploring with your kids and were laid back with them. What a fabulous week.
