I thrive best on structure and routine. I find that when I create a plan, I am more apt to sticking to it. I have been slacking off on my fitness lately. I have no excuse besides life has been wicked busy and I have been doing other things than running, lifting, and focusing on proper nutrition.
I am not saying that those choices are good… it is just what I have been doing. I am committing to make time for things that are important to me: faith, family, fitness (running, strength) and (good) food.
I used to share my fitness and nutrition plan here weekly. I am not sure why I grew out of the habit. Perhaps I didn’t feel that it was beneficial or interesting. Either way, I realize that I need to share it to stay accountable.
This morning, the big boys were at their classes and the T man and I enjoyed a nice and easy 5 mile run together. Well… I ran and he enjoyed taking hundreds (hundreds!!!) of selfies and mini movies. He had fun.
With my next race coming up super quick, the first weekend in October, I am buckling down and getting miles on my feet with the training. Better late than never, right?
I will be running the Rock N Roll San Jose half marathon on October 5. I would love to run with you (or meet you) if you will be there! I have a discount code that is good for $25 off through the end of this month: RunWithRachel to use if you are interested.
My Running Plan for the Week
Monday: easy 5 miles while pushing T in the jogger
Tuesday: 2 easy (chase boys on bikes)
Wednesday: 7 miles tempo (fartlek) while pushing T in the jogger
Thursday: 2 easy (chase boys on bikes)
Friday: 2 easy (chase boys on bikes)
Saturday: 9-11 easy miles
My Eating Plan for the Week
I have created a meal plan, my I am not a foodie blogger. I am focusing on whole real foods. I am making it a point to have a protein at each meal. I plan to eat 3 meals with 2 snacks in between. My plan for nutrition this week is to eat smart, eat real, and drink lots of water.
My Fitness (Lifting/Strength) Plan for the Week
Monday: 10 minute ab workout (21 Day Fix)
Tuesday: Dirty Thirty (21 Day Fix)
Wednesday: 10 minute ab workout (21 Day Fix)
Thursday: Upper Fix
Friday: Lower Fix
As with all things in life, I am totally flexible with my fitness and running plan. Life happens. Parenting happens. We have lessons, errands, Bible study, play dates, and more that will be occupying our week.
Running. Eating. Lifting. Planning. Teaching. Playing. Learning. Loving.
I feel better when I make running and fitness a priority in my life. Just like my physical fitness goals, I need to remember to make my spiritual fitness a priority. Learning to find the art of balance as I juggle life’s demands is something I am working on.
A little trinket of truth from my Bible study this week (Living a Life of Balance by Women of Faith).
Were so busy trying to maintain balance for all of our PHYSICAL needs that we hardly have a moment to think of our SPIRITUAL ones. When we look around at others who seem to make balanced living so effortless, we needn’t despair when we’ve dropped the ball. Physical balance, like juggling, takes practice and effort. But even more important is our SPIRITUAL BALANCE, which requires a sound heart, a dependence on Jesus, and fruitful lives.
Making my fitness plan and sharing it with you will help me stay accountable. Sharing my spiritual fitness goal also helps me stay accountable. I am working on living a life of balance… both physically and spiritually. Always a work in progress.

My #1 goal this week is completing all of my daily Bible readings – so yes, I am also working on my spiritual fitness and my physical fitness! =) I do menu plan too, but nothing fancy because I am not a foodie! Have a great week!
Crystal says
I’m a planner as well. I do best if I have every bite of food planned for the day. I need to come up with a better exercise plan that will motivate me to get up and go.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Sounds like a good plan. My big goal of the week is to build on the momentum from last week. And I need to get back to my daily meditation – I’ve let it slip a bit lately.

I don’t work on anything yet, and it shows. Which really depresses me. My husband and I want to take a 300+ mile bike ride in the spring, so I need to begin training. Soon.

Avid menu planner! I’ve been doing it so long it’s habit and it saves me so much time during the work week. Fitness for the week? Run and Piyo
Deborah Brooks @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
I definitely feel better when fitness and health is my priority. I could do better on the meal planning aspect but life happens!
Heather @ Divas Run for Bling says
Your plan looks like you are on the right track! I find that by writing down my goals, I am more likely to keep up with them
Shop with Me Mama (Kim) says
I love how organized you are with your weeks! Wow. I need to get better organized so I actually have time to take care of myself!

I am really working on keeping every meal Whole30. I know you arent supposed to do it forever, but I have yet to find anything I can “reintroduce” without feeling MISERABLE after. Also a victory – I tried spaghetti squash tonight and it was fantastic. Seriously amazing. Oh – and I think I am going to try an Aqua Zumba class… just for fun lol
Stacie @ The Divine Miss Mommy says
I am a big planner as well. I plan everything out. Your plans sound great. I like how you have plans for everything.
Kathleen says
Bless you for being able to run many miles, I just can’t do that. My problem in the past is that I would try and then I would get hurt and I would quit. So, what I have started doing is walking an hour on the treadmill everyday. It takes more time than running, but I still get 3-4 miles in, and I am going to gradually increase the speed over the next month so that maybe I can start running too.
Lisa says
I need to blog to keep myself more accountable too
Toni says
Sharing your plan is a good idea as it makes you accountable and harder not to follow through! Looks like your plan is well rounded! I am running my first ever 16 miler this weekend in prep for the NYC marathon, I am nervous and excited.
Jennifer H says
hahaha – my kids do that too with our iPad.
Running Hutch says
I need to get back on my plan as well. Sometimes I feel stifled by a plan (usually because I made one I can’t keep up with) and sometimes I feel I accomplish more because I love checking things off a list. Menu planning is also awesome and saves me money! Definitely must work on spiritual, mental and physical fitness – all three!
Kimberly Grabinski says
I need to get better about planning my fitness and my meals. We eat well and I do workout but I don’t have plans or goals in place which makes it easy to fail.
Liz Mays says
My daughter participates in fitness competitions too so she has a very strict regimen as well. I know protein is super important to her.
Cynthia @ You Signed Up For WHAT?! says
I’ve been off my game with menu and other “life” planning lately – I used to plan things in advance and now I seem to be winging it more and it’s not working! Thanks for the reminders.
Christine @ Love, Life, Surf says
I too feel better when I make fitness and health a priority in my life but like you, life has been ridiculously busy today. I do much better when there’s a routine. It looks like you have a good schedule set up for the week.
Digna D. says
Nice the way you have this planned out. I need a way to stay motivated, Fortunately, my hubby has recently lost a great deal of weight, he is a live-in roll model for what can be done.
valmg @ Mom Knows It All says
I do so much better timewise and budgetwise when I menu plan! What’s a rock and roll run?
Kira says
My goal goal this goal this week is to get out and run. It’s always a struggle with a crazy schedule but health comes first so I’m learning to prioritize.
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
I am a HUGE planner. I have lists and books everywhere, but it really helps me.

I worked on my food plan yesterday. I don’t run but I do walk daily and I’m trying to get up to a mile.
Ericka Chatman says
Feeling inspired to make my own schedule. I know I really need to create one, but I’ve been slacking. I made a to-do list today and I’ve crossed off a few things.
