We are in full swing of getting our groove on with back to school. Our fun-filled summer of adventure seeking has ended. The cooler temperatures of fall brings more outdoor fun for our outdoor loving family. We don’t need to end the fun just because school is in session and the temperature is cooler. We can still stay active as a family while having fun!
In northern California the temperature is nice for the majority of the year. Our fall is cooler, but still comfortable for outdoor activities. We enjoy spending as much time outdoors as we can… and often find the end of summer/early fall our favorite time of year to play!
While being active with my family, I want to be comfortable. Choosing the right fitness attire is key. C9 by Target® is all about making sure you are comfortable, confident and feel good with any activity you set your mind to. Whether you are doing yoga, hiking, running, or even carrying your groceries into the house.
Tips and Tricks for Staying Active and Having Fun
Plan for new adventures! Make a plan and go for it!
Today I am going to share with you a few tips and tricks on how we stay active as a family… while making it fun! There are many activities we enjoy doing together (year round), but with the cooling temperatures and shorter days, these activities tend to be our favorite this time of year.
Get outdoors and go for a hike.
The fresh air, change of scenery, and slower pace will rejuvenate you and leave you feeling refreshed!
Our boys love hiking and exploring new-to-us trails in our area. We make it fun and have a goal of making memories of our fun hiking adventure. Have fun!
Get Wet!
The cooler temperatures do not mean that you can’t splash and have fun in the pool! Gather up some friends and head to your nearest pool. Perhaps your gym (or hotel) has a heated pool you can use to get some exercise and have fun with friends!
Our boys love swimming in our gym’s (heated outdoor) pool year round. They have fun, get exercise, and are making memories while practicing their swimming skills.
Go for a Bike Ride.
Dust off your bikes and hit the trails. Feel the wind in your face and enjoy the scenery as you cover the miles.
My boys love riding their bikes. We enjoy hitting our local trails and traveling by bike to explore new-to-us parks and sights. Movement, exercise, and memories all while on our bike!
Go for a Run!
The temperatures are cooling down and that means you can finally run outdoors again! Hopefully the humidity (for those in the south) has lessened with the heat.
I prefer running outdoors to the treadmill, and will encourage my boys to ride their bikes while I run. It may not be the longest run or the fastest… but getting outside to run is so much better than an indoor run any day.
As with all things in life, you must choose to have a positive attitude with your life choices. Choosing to have fun with your fitness activities is key. When I choose to workout with my children (which is an almost daily occurrence for me), I must choose to have fun and make it a fun-filled adventure. It may not always be pretty… or how I want it… but we are making memories.
What are your favorite activities to do in the fall to stay active?

Just walking around town at the Farmer’s Market, window shopping, antiquing, etc. is a great way to move. Otherwise, my husband and son love to golf and my daughter’s always on her skates.

I love Target C9 for the family. All the activities above are perfect family fun Rachael. We love family hikes in the Marin area and spend hours hiking so high up we can see the city. 🙂
Rachel says
That would be awesome! I would love to hike and explore there. 🙂
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Great tips! I’m excited to be active and have fun with a family one day! 🙂

These pics look familiar! I’m also a mom with boys so I’ve got lots of pics of us doing these same activities. 🙂 I like your comment about how we need to be more concerned about making memories than how we look. That is so true! Whenever we dive in and join our family in the adventure, we’ll be so much happier… and so will they.
Enjoy your boys!

I hope my future kids love hiking! Is there any things you’d do to encourage fun on the hike?
Rachel says
Haha. Since you asked. Every time we see poop (horse poop) we yell “POOP!” haha… this keeps them entertained for a while.
We also stop and see critters, sticks, rocks, etc 😉
Snacks and water are also key!

fabulous tips! I don’t have children yet but my hubby and I try to spend time together by running and hiking – especially in the fall when the temps start getting cooler

Me too! I have many friends who do that and LOVE it! 🙂

I’ll admit that my family and I should be a little more active than we’re at the moment. We do go for nature walks, yet we could do something more active such as bike riding. I’ve always loved bike riding. It’s something I’d love to do with my family, alas my son or husband doesn’t really get into bike riding.
Jamie H says
My family loves wandering around apple orchards and corn mazes!

We love to go on family hikes. Normally we challenge the kids to do something different on each hike to try to keep them engaged. We went on a pine cone hunt last time to start to gather supplies for fall crafts.

Our family LOVES to hike, and my son is learning to ride his bike without training wheels so we are hoping to do a whole lot more of that!
Mimi says
We don’t do a lot around here, and there’s probably a lot to explore, but the boys and I need to start walking around our neighborhood. I’d love to find trails to walk, too!
Kathleen says
Oh, we love hikes. That is one of the main activities that the boys and I do on our long road trips across the country. Not only do you stay active, but you get to see some pretty amazing things too.

We will be going camping!
