Fueling our muscles post workout is just as important as the workout itself. When we workout we are breaking down the muscles… and we need rest and fuel to repair those broken down muscles. For me, I enjoy drinking my nutrient dense protein shake post workout. It is not only delicious but it is doing so many amazing things for my body and muscles post workout.
I made this delicious post workout strawberry banana smoothie earlier this week. I shared it with the boys, and they drank it right up. We all enjoyed this tasty strawberry treat. I hope you do too!
Post Workout Strawberry Banana Protein Smoothie
1 scoop Strawberry Shakeology
1 (5.3 oz) Stonyfield Organic Greek Vanilla Yogurt
1 Medium Banana
1 cup fresh (or frozen) strawberries
1 cup water (or almond/milk for a creamier shake and more protein)
Simply add ingredients in your Vitamix blender till smooth. Pour and enjoy!
This recipe can be consumed all by yourself, or you could share with others.
The smoothie is full of nutrients and protein to refuel your body after a great workout! If you were to drink the smoothie all on your own, it would be around 400-450 calories, 30 grams of protein, 4 grams of fat, 76 grams of carbohydrates (26/7/67).
I divided our smoothie 4-ways, so the boys and I could each enjoy the yummy afternoon treat. Dividing the shake 4 ways made each shake 132 calories plus the fresh strawberries we used as a pretty garnish. Yummy! The boys enjoyed a tasty treat and got 9 grams of protein, 1 gram of fat, and 22 grams of carbohydrates.
I am enjoying experimenting in the kitchen with healthy, whole foods, to fuel my body (and my boys growing bodies). Remember you need to refuel your body after an intense workout. Building and repairing those broken down muscles is key for growth to happen.

I must be the only person who hasn’t tried shakeology yet! I do love a strawberry/banana one though 🙂

I love post-workout smoothies. I made a simple one with Vega Vanilla, banana, and water this morning. Already 25g of protein, so I rarely add any more. 🙂

I love Chocolate Shakeology with a strawberries and a spoon full of natural peanut butter, too! I’m not a big fan of banana in drinks, though.

That does look delicious. My kids love smoothies so we have a throw in everything but the kitchen sink approach to making them. Some days our grab bag recipes leave a lot to be desired. I’ll be trying your recipe for a fool-proof version.

Much as I enjoy smoothies, my Vitamix was on a “hiatus” for awhile until I was recently introduced to the Ka’Chava vegan protein powder, which is utterly delicious. This protein smoothie sounds delicious, too! Strawberry banana has always been one of my favorites.
Paul says
I do the same but I always add one spoon of protein.
