Two weeks in to the new year and I still have yet to sit down and make my resolutions for 2015. I think I have come to the conclusion that I have some pretty attainable goals I would like to achieve this year: fitness goals, financial, faith based, and family focused. I know that I need to make sure my goals are S.M.A.R.T.
I just love this infographic above. I found it on pinterest and thought it was perfect! As a member of Team Stonyfield, they have encouraged us to not only eat their amazing organic line of products, but to also make organic resolutions for the new year. Sharing how every little step can make big changes in the new year for you… and the whole family!
The biggest not-so-little change for our family is obviously the move cross country. Exciting. Terrifying. Exciting.
The small changes that I am adding (not focusing on taking away) with my boys are adding more fresh fruit and vegetables. We are eating more organic food. I am doing my best to show them how to live an active lifestyle by finding time daily to exercise and move your body. I am also planning on teaching them ways to save money (when we settle after the move) by making small changes… because those small changes add up!!
My goal for 2015 is not to live with less… but to enjoy and LIVE LIFE to the FULL by making BIG changes in the small steps. Yes there may be missteps and struggles… but as long as I strive and push forward by continuing to move forward… those simple small changes will add up to big results!
Speaking of making progress with each small step… here is what I did for my fitness plan last week. The boys and I had an interesting cough that lingered mid-week which resulted in active rest days. I am learning to embrace the rest part of the training plan too!
Last Week’s Fitness Plan (What I did):
Monday: PureForm PFT strength
Tuesday: 5 treadmill miles
Wednesday: active rest (chest cold)
Thursday: active rest (packing)
Friday: PureForm PFT strength
Saturday: run with friends 14.5 trail miles
Sunday: active rest (packing)
I joined a few of my trail running friends to run around the trails of Auburn this weekend. I was nervous because it was 14 miles on the agenda and trails! I knew I was in good company and it was a great time. We ended up climbing around 2800 feet and crossed over two bridges (starting at the American River and up and above the Foresthill Bridge and back down over No Hands Bridge. It was challenging but so worth it!
I may not be noticing any change on the scale or the way my clothes fit… but I will share that I am feeling stronger. I am able to lift more weight with more reps before fatiguing. I was able to run those 14.5 miles without bonking and am able to walk (up and down stairs too) without any leg soreness the next day. I am stronger… these small steps are helping me make progress with my goals.
This Week’s Fitness Plan (What I plan to do):
Monday: PureForm PFT strength
Tuesday: 3 easy miles
Wednesday: PureForm PFT strength + 5 miles speed work
Thursday: active rest
Friday: PureForm PFT strength
Saturday: run with while chasing the boys on bikes 6-9 miles
Sunday: active rest
In order to stay accountable with my goals, I share them with you each week. I have committed to making small changes with the hopes of a big change in the future. Practice makes progress and I am slowly seeing progress! Yay!
Please join me and Janice for the #MotivateME link up each Monday. Share with us your goals for the week, quarter, year and let’s encourage and motivate you to be successful in reaching those goals!

I am one of the odd people who really love big moves! I am so excited by the new experiences and exploring. Have a great week.
Rachel says
I (kind of) fit in that category. I love moving and change. However, as I get older … WITH kids… each move gets increasingly difficult. I don’t have to worry about MY life/schedule/routine being uprooted… but also now my kids and their friendships. :sigh: That is what breaks my hear the most. BUT… I do love unpacking, redecorating, and the newness of exploring. 🙂

I am more than a little jealous of your move. We’ve been in the same house for more than 17 years and I’m really ready for a change.

I love when you notice those small changes like lifting more weight or running longer. I find those way more motivating than scale changes.
Rachel says
Yes. When I noticed THOSE positive changes the scale didn’t matter that much. But oh that blasted scale. 😉
Diatta @ Femme Fitale Fit Club says
You always have the most scenic photos on your runs. If I were you I would be running long miles too with all of that to look at. Doesn’t it feel good when you realize you are mad buff and strong like Hercules? 🙂
Rachel says
Thank you… and a I love that term “Mad buff and strong like Hercules” <3 Maybe I should change my blog name to that! HAHA!
RFC says
That IS a great infographic! My week consists of actually trying to pre-make my meals, and to log more miles (I’ve spent the last few weeks really focusing on weight training!)
Rachel says
Thank you. I am trying to focus on strength training too lately … as well as getting my long runs in 😉
