I thought I would throw up a quick Friday Five share of how the last few days have been… life after the Boston Marathon.
I arrived home Tuesday evening. I was able to catch the last 10 minutes of T’s soccer game. He was so cute playing. When he was subbed out he looked up and saw me… ran over quickly with the biggest smile on his face and jumped into my arms. My heart melted. I think he missed me.
My two big boys casually walked over to me. P hugged me and said he was glad I was home. C (9) walked over, nodded in my direction and said, “Wassup!?” Seriously. Well… 2 out of 3 isn’t bad! Ha!
Immediately after warming up and cleaning up, I sported my ProCompression socks and tights. I wore them Monday evening through Tuesday evening. I sported my compression socks (a clean pair) Wednesday.
I am not sure if it was the compression gear, hydration, post-run fuel, or making sure I kept moving… but I had minimal soreness in my legs on Wednesday. I was able to walk fine (not funny like I did in previous marathons) and going down stairs and hills weren’t too awkward.
The biggest complaint or owie I have from my race is the only spot I chaffed. Apparently I missed the upper part of my arms (near my armpit) on both arms!!! Both arms are chaffed up hardcore and with each swing of my arm(S ) I feel the owie.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened. I must have really sensitive skin there… because I chafe there a lot. Ouch.
Walking. I am giving myself a mandatory week rest and recovery of no running. I am enjoying the slower pace of walking with T.
We walked around our neighborhood on Earth Day to pick up trash. He was really in to the whole cleaning up our world. Now, if only I can get him and his brothers to feel the same way about cleaning up their room!
Speaking of cleaning up… as with all travels away from the home… cleaning and playing catch up is the name of the game. I have been doing laundry for days! Days! It is amazing the amount of laundry that piled up over the weekend.
Yes. That is my clean laundry pile. I need to fold and put the clothes away. I am fantastic at washing and drying the clothes. Even folding them… it is the follow through (putting them away) where I slack.
There you have it. Life after running a marathon is back to business as usual for me. The only difference is when people ask me about the race experience. Of course, I am sporting my 2015 Boston Marathon race jacket!
Oh, another cool thing I wanted to share. I was featured on my local news station the day before the marathon. You can watch the video and feature HERE.

STILL SO PROUD OF YOU!! and the chaffing!! UGH! Glad you’re getting to enjoy your boys again. I’m sure they missed you bunches.

Fun story! Good job!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Ouch that chafing looks like it hurts! Glad to hear that you’re otherwise moving well.
Sam @ PancakeWarriors says
I always have a huge clean clothes pile – the folding part is the worst!! Hope you are recovering well!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
I always take a rest day after a big race. I’ll usually do some strength training the week after, but not a lot of running. As for laundry, I detest the WHOLE process haha.

LIke you I don’t mind the washing, drying and folding, it’s the putting away that sucks!! I usually take 2 weeks off from doing any form of exercise. That’s right, I do absolutely nothing! The more I do marathons though the quicker I notice my recovery time so I may cut that back down to a week next time! Have a great weekend!

I swear the hardest part of going away is being away from the kiddos. Glad you got a warm reception! I was very sore after my first marathon, but every one since then hasn’t been a big deal at all. I think the body adapts. Is it weird I don’t mind any aspect of laundry? I wish I felt that way about washing floors…
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’m taking a recovery week or 2 after Sunday’s half. I didn’t do that after last fall’s marathon, and I learned that maybe a little rest is a good thing…

I usually take a one week mandatory rest week and then decide if I need longer. Laundry is my daughter’s job 🙂

Great job on Boston! It must hard getting back but nice to be with your family.

I HATE folding and putting away laundry as well. I do not envy you that job haha

I swear my laundry multiplies when I’m not home. I don’t even know how it happens. Glad you’re enjoying a restful week.
