As our summer is winding down, our fall sports season is ramping up. We have two playing soccer and one playing flag football. Juggling and balancing their practice schedules leaves us spending a lot of time in the car in the evening, driving to and from practices. Life is nutty!
This often happens during the witching hour where the boys (and Mama) are cranky (i.e. hungry and tired). I am learning that when I pack a healthy snack for the boys (and Mama) to munch on before and after practice, we are all less nutty and in a better mood.
I often feel like I am the boys taxi driver. My mom gave me a little charm to hang on my rear view mirror that states, Moms Taxi. Oh how it is so true. I am driving to and from activities all day long, especially in the evenings when it is taking kids to and from their sports practices.
I am in my car so much, that snacking on the go is what I have been doing. I am totally digging the mini canisters of Emerald nuts. They fit perfectly in my cup holder next to my water. The nuts provide healthy fats and protein, which helps fuel the boys for the practice as well as Mommy for helping coach and drive to/from places.
Last night’s first sports drop off was to my 9 year old’s soccer practice. I am supposed to be the strength and conditioning coach (hello lots of running and drills), but right now I am a taxi driver for the boys… until our schedule settles down.
Shortly after dropping him off, the two younger boys and I headed to our second stop for the evening. My 7 year old’s flag football practice. We were a little early, so we sat in the car and enjoyed a few handfuls of the Emerald Mixed Nuts from my canister. Yum.
I really like the pop up lid that makes it easy to pour into your hand while on the go (walking, driving, sitting). It makes messy spills less likely.
The T-man pretty much claimed the mixed nuts as his own. He shared with Mama, but he had to hold it.
It was a big day in football because P was able to practice with his helmet. Oh man. What an exciting day for him. This was ALL he could talk about on the way TO and FROM practice. I think his helmet is his favorite part of football. Ha!
Look at all those little boys in helmets! They look so tiny!
I know life is a little nutty from time to time, and our fall schedule is COMPLETELY NUTTY. I am digging the Emerald nuts to help make part of our day, less cranky and nutritious filled.

Cute idea with the little canisters. I really like kind bars when I want a nutty type snack. I usually need the carbs, too, to stave off the “hangries.” I have been known to keep the bigger canisters of Emerald nuts around the house. Good luck with your busy schedule with the boys!

I always keep some sort of snack bar in my purse so I don’t get hangry. I’m also a big fan of roasted almonds – yum!

I never leave my house without emergency snacks 🙂
The helmets on little kids is just too cute!

I always try to keep a snack close by. If I’m hungry, you don’t want to be around me!

I am NUTS for nuts. I mean, if I could live on them I would. My kids love them too … one likes cashews, the other is crazy about almonds, but no one is fond of peanuts. That severely limits the bars I can purchase, so the plain ole nuts is what we have 90% of the time!

I snack a lot on almonds, especially during a busy day in the clinic. When I start to feel my energy draining, I grab a handful and I’m good to go!

I suspect we don’t have Emerald nuts in this area?? Never heard of them. But I do love nuts of all kinds. I’m a Kind Bar girl on the go.

Those look so convenient! I am totally with you on the “witching hour” – the time varies each day, but there’s usually a window where I get hangry and a little bit scary until I get some food 😉 Nuts are one of my favourite snacks to tie me over!

Nuts are definitely a snack I reach for on the go! Wow, I can’t believe you balance three boys sports schedules. I’m dreading two and trying to figure out how to split myself fairly!!

I’ll have to check these out next time I go to Walmart. My kids and I love nuts and these are great to have on hand in an emergency! Thanks for sharing.

I have middle grade boys, and it can be exhausting running from one practice to the next, healthy snacks are indeed the best way to refuel us all 🙂
