Welcome back to week 7 of my 7 week series discussing the 7 Habits of Highly Successful People – and how I am incorporating that theory into my own life as a mom, my fitness and nutrition journey, and in teaching my children.
Last week, I discussed the first habit of highly effective people: Together is Better.
This week, I will be talking about the sixth habit of highly effective people: Balance.
- Physical: healthy eating, exercising, rest
- Social/Emotional: making and establishing meaningful friendships/relationships with others
- Mental: learning, reading, writing and teaching
- Spiritual: meditation, prayer, art, service
- You can renew yourself through relaxation. Or you can totally burn yourself out by overdoing everything.
- You can pamper yourself mentally and spiritually. Or you can go through life oblivious to your well-being.
- You can experience vibrant energy. Or you can procrastinate and miss out on the benefits of good health and exercise.
- You can revitalize yourself and face a new day in peace and harmony. Or you can wake up in the morning full of apathy because your get-up-and-go has got-up-and-gone.
Just remember that every day provides a new opportunity for renewal–a new opportunity to recharge yourself instead of hitting the wall.
All it takes is the desire, knowledge, and skill.
How can I find balance?
Family ~ slow down, figure out what is important (a priority) and MAKE it important
Household ~ Be realistic with my expectations (household chores) and divide the tasks for each day of the week
Fitness & Nutrition ~ Rest! Make a plan and stick to it.

From the book, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids – I read the story that had an underlying message of the importance of having a plan. After reading the story, I asked my children a few questions and had a great conversation about the importance of planning ahead.
My life lesson for my child(ren) regarding planning:
- Put the children to bed early and comment how great you feel when you wake up!
- For one whole week, read foe 20 minutes every day.
- Play with a new friend.
- Play outside and enjoy nature – think about all the things in your life that make you happy.

Great idea! My children always amaze me when I sit down and talk to them, like really talk to them. They come up with stuff that really makes me proud – I should sit and talk to them about planning, perhaps they’ll even come up with a daily plan for the days we’re home together. Lately we’ve done a lot of “free play”.
